Aggies blog about the cultural representation of Black women and the literature they produce. We center the lived experience of the Black woman as represented in literature and the terms and conditions on which she projects her own agency amidst society’s denial of it. We aim to use this place as a site of valuable information, and a space to challenge traditional paradigms about the Black woman’s identity and experience.
This clip in a way expresses the dichotomy that affects the identity construction of both white men and black women. Overall it displays the white man viewing the black woman as a spectacle and allows for us as viewers to see how absurd some of the statements are that are made to black women by white men.
I believe that even today white men are overly fascinated with the black woman. In the video we see that she talks about "showing him off" at the party. Even today, some white men still have their own selfish agenda when it comes to dealing with the black woman.
